FORT LEONARD WOOD, MO – A vehicle accident occurred on Fort Leonard Wood today at about 11:55 a.m. when the driver of an Acura SUV experienced a medical emergency before colliding with an unoccupied, parked vehicle. Fort Leonard Wood emergency services personnel arrived on the scene within minutes after the accident occurred.

The driver, who is not affiliated with the Department of Defense, was pronounced deceased at the scene at 12:42 p.m. by General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital personnel. One passenger was airlifted to the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Mo., and is listed in critical condition, according to GLWACH personnel. Two additional passengers were transported by ambulance to GLWACH where they were treated and are currently in stable condition.

The driver’s name will not be released until next-of-kin notification. Fort Leonard Wood Military Police and the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command are investigating the accident.
