FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (Aug. 16, 2018) — See the world without leaving Missouri during Fort Leonard Wood’s 18th annual Know Your World event, where more than 70 international military officers from more than 40 different countries will come together from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 24 at Fort Leonard Wood’s Nutter Field House.

Fort Leonard Wood is home to a diverse military presence. Military personnel from around the world come to train on the installation, bringing with them different cultures that some have never experienced.

According to event planners, the evening is designed to build awareness and appreciation for these different cultures and customs by showcasing the various countries with photo displays, items and in some cases, ethnic foods for attendees to sample.

“There will also be a ‘passport’ for kids, and adults if they wish, to complete by getting answers to questions about different countries with a certificate for completing the questions,” said Kay Lowder with the International Military Student Office Field Studies Program.

In addition to learning about other cultures, Lowder said interested individuals can also learn how they can host international military students.

“Being a Friendship Ambassador is easy and a great way to learn more about a specific country,” Lowder said.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information on the event or the Friendship Ambassador Program, call 417.437.8729, or email flw.fsp.team@gmail.com.
