FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (March 22, 2019) – The following Fort Leonard Wood announcements are for the week of March 25 through March 29.

March 25

National Medal of Honor Day on March 25 is dedicated to all Medal of Honor recipients. The Medal of Honor is the United States of America’s highest military honor. According to the Department of Defense web page, since March 25, 1863, the Medal of Honor has been awarded 3,517 times, including 19 double recipients. As of November 2017, there are 71 living recipients. #MedalOfHonorDay

March 29

March 29 is National Vietnam War Veterans Day, honoring the men and women who served and sacrificed during the longest conflict in United States history. It was on March 29, 1973 when combat and combat support units withdrew from South Vietnam. Generations later, Veterans of this time period are receiving respect that was no so freely given upon their return. The war involved five U.S. presidents, crossing nearly two decades and 500,000 U.S. military personnel. Today we recognize the military service of these men and women who answered the call to service of their country when it needed them. #VietnamWarVeteransDay

March 30  

The annual Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Clover Dash 5K/10K race has been rescheduled for 9 a.m. March 30 at Davidson Fitness Center. The race, originally scheduled for March 9, was postponed due to inclement weather. Registration for the race will re-open Monday through March 29. Entry fees are $15 per runner. No race-day tickets will be sold. Bib and T-shirt pickup will be held from 7 to 8:45 a.m. on race day. April 3-4

The Directorate of Emergency Services Law Enforcement and Fire and Emergency services is scheduled to hold a Rescue Task Force Training seminar on active-shooter response April 3 and 4 on Fort Leonard Wood. Due to the realistic nature of this training event, those located in the vicinity of the training may hear simulated shots and other special effects sounds.

April 4

Ready and Resilient Fair, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 4 in the Main Post Chapel. The event is open to all service members, family members and civilian employees and includes opportunities to complete some mandatory training requirements. Lunch will be provided by Mobile USO. April 5

Registration for the 2019 Strike Out Sexual Assault bowling event is open now through April 1. The event is scheduled to take place from 1 to 4 p.m. April 5 at the Daugherty Bowling Center located at 1609 South Dakota Avenue. The event is intended to bring awareness to the role we all have in Sexual Harassment/Sexual Assault Response and Prevention. For more information about the bowling event, call 573-528-4098/596-0600. April 8-12

Engineer Regimental Week takes place on post April 8-12, and includes the Senior Engineer Leadership Conference, the Best Sapper Competition April 8-10, the Army Engineer Association’s Industry Exhibition April 9-10, a Family Readiness Group event for spouses and service members April 9, the Fallen Sapper Tribute April 11, the Engineer Regimental Run April 12, and the Engineer Regimental Ball & Awards Ceremony April 12. #USAES #ESSAYONS

April 8

The Chemical Defense Training Facility plans to host a ribbon cutting ceremony April 8 at 2 p.m. at the CDTF. The event signifies improvements that were recently made to expand and enhance training opportunities for both the operational force and institutional training domain. Tours of the facility for personnel will be held April 2 and 3 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day.

April 9

In combination with Engineer Regimental Week April 8-12, the annual Engineer Family Readiness Group event is planned from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 9 at Training Area 250. Military spouses and service members are welcome to attend. The day will feature a team-building experience that involves a closer look at all Engineer capabilities within the Regiment, displays of engineer vehicles and more. April 10

Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation’s PT in the Woods is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. April 10 on Gerlach Track with registration beginning at 6 a.m. Celebrate the Month of the Military Child with a 30-minute aerobics workout for service members and their children ages 3 to 18. April 13

An Easter Egg Hunt is planned for 9 a.m. April 13 at Gammon Field. Enjoy activities, musical entertainment, face painting, balloon artist, petting zoo, and photos with the Easter Bunny at 9 a.m. The Egg Hunt begins at 10 a.m. Age groups for the egg hunt will range from ages 2 and under, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12 years old. April 29-May 2

The U.S. Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear School plans to host the 2019 Best CBRN Warrior Competition April 29-May 2 on Fort Leonard Wood. A maximum of 25, two-person teams will be accepted for the competition.

June 1

Registration for the 20th annual Volkslauf 10K Fun Run, is officially open. The “extreme 10K event,” hosted annually by the U.S. Marine Corps Detachment, is scheduled for June 1 on Fort Leonard Wood. Pre-registration will remain open through May 15. After that, teams and individuals can still register, but fees will increase. Ongoing

Community Orientation is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon, Thursdays at Building 470, Room 2224. This program is part of a seven-day cycle for in-processing Soldiers called Arrive Strong. Spouses are encouraged to attend. For more information, contact 573.596.0136.

The Fort Leonard Wood Tax Center will remain open through the end of April, and is located on the first floor of the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, Building 315. Appointments can be made by calling the Fort Leonard Wood Tax Center at 573.596.1040. The FLW Tax Center’s hours of operation are Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays.  While appointments are encouraged, walk-ins are welcome during the Tax Center’s hours of operation.
