FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (May 31, 2018) – The following Fort Leonard Wood announcements are for the week of June 4 through June 8.

June 2

Marines’ 19th Annual Volkslauf ‘Extreme’ 10K Run, 8 a.m. June 2 on Fort Leonard Wood. Pre-registration fees are $30 for individual adults, or $125 per team of five. Youth ages 6 to 17 and military personnel who are entry-level students can register for $20 per individual. Collegiate teams and youth teams can register for $70 per team. Youth teams must have one adult age 19 or older as a team captain. Teams with more than five members can register additional runners for $20 per team member. Pre-registration will remain open until Tuesday. After that date, fees will increase to $25 for individual youth, $150 for adult teams and $85 for collegiate and youth teams, while individual adult and student rates will remain unchanged. June 4

Summer reading program, June 4-July 16 at Bruce C. Clarke Library. Participate in the Summer Reading Program and win badges and prizes.  The theme for this year’s Summer Reading Program is “Reading takes you Everywhere.” This program is open to all ages. June 4 is the last day to register for the Chemical Regimental Ball scheduled for 6 p.m. June 29 in Nutter Field House as part of the Chemical Corps’ weeklong 100th anniversary celebration. Doors open with a social period beginning at 5 p.m. Dress for this event is formal. June 8

Movie in the park, 8:30 p.m. June 8 at Colyer Park. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs and enjoy a free movie under the stars. The featured movie is Captain Underpants. There will be no show if there is rain or high winds. Concessions will be available for purchase from the Better Opportunities for Single Service Members Program. A bass tournament is scheduled from 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. June 8 at the Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area. Grab your fishing rod and lure in the big one. Each boat must have a DOD authorized card holder. Cost is $40 per boat and $10 additional Big bass. For more information, call 573.346.5640.

June 9

Kids catfish derby, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. June 9 at pond 228 on Fort Leonard Wood. This free event is open to the public. Youth ages 2-15 years old must be accompanied by an adult. The Infuze Credit Union is offering free tickets to service members for the 13th annual Fort Leonard Wood Military Appreciation Day at the Springfield Cardinals, scheduled for June 9 at Hammons Field in Springfield, Missouri. The free tickets are available to active-duty military, retirees, veterans, National Guard members, reservists and their dependents. Military ID must be presented at time of pick-up. Tickets may be picked up at Infuze Credit Union on Fort Leonard Wood between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Springfield Cardinals will face the Tulsa Drillers are 6:10 p.m. Fort Leonard Wood personnel will take part in a number of pre-game activities, as well as events held between innings. June 14

Fort Leonard Wood plans to celebrate the U.S. Army’s 243rd birthday with several events on post June 14, which is the official Army birth date. Events that day include a division-style Army birthday run kicking off at 5:30 a.m. from Gammon Field, followed by the annual birthday cake-cutting ceremony and ice cream social at 10 a.m. at the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence Plaza. The final tribute for the day will be the Streamer and Retreat ceremony at 4:30 p.m. at the MSCoE Plaza for members of Fort Leonard Wood and the surrounding communities. June 16

Summer paintball tournament, 10 a.m. June 16 at Outdoor Adventure Center. Tournament is 2 out of 3 games, single elimination. Trophies will be given to 1st and 2nd Place. Open to ages 13 and up. June 18 and 19

The Fort Leonard Wood Commissary has scheduled a free P&G Football ProCamps event for military children, featuring Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert, June 18 and 19 on Fort Leonard Wood. Registration for the camp is open to boys and girls who are military children going into grades one through eight. Participants must be dependents of active-duty service members, National Guard, Reserve, military retirees or Department of Defense civilian employees. Parents will need to show their ID card or their child’s dependent ID card in order for the child to participate. Camp sessions will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 18 and from 9 a.m. until noon June 19 at a venue on Fort Leonard Wood to be named later.

June 23

Hop on the Bus to Six Flags, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 23 in Eureka, Mo. Join us for a day of thrills at Six Flags in St. Louis. Hop on the bus and leave the driving to us. The bus will leave Leisure Travel Services, located in the PX Mini Mall, at 8 a.m. and will return at 8 p.m. Open to the public, all ages. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. June 28

The U.S. Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear School at Fort Leonard Wood plans to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Chemical Corps with a Veterans Homecoming June 28. The event is open to all Chemical Corps veterans, and each veteran is invited to bring one guest.

Several events planned that day include:

  • A Sunrise Service at 6 a.m. at the Chemical Corps Memorial Grove, followed by a Sunrise Service Breakfast.
  • A tour of the 1st Lt. Joseph Terry CBRN Responder Training Facility at 8:30 a.m.
  • The Hall of Fame/Distinguished Member of the Corps Induction Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. in Baker Theater.
  • A no-host lunch with Soldiers at the 84th Chemical Battalion dining facility at 11:30 a.m.  Cost of the meal is $5.60 per person.
  • A visit to the Chemical Corps Museum, along with group photos at 1:15 p.m.
  • A Veterans Recognition Ceremony in the 84th Chemical Battalion classroom at 3:30 p.m.
