FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (May 21, 2021) — The Center for Seabees and Facilities Engineering Navy Detachment Fort Leonard Wood held a change-of-charge ceremony May 11 in Shields Hall, where Navy Lt. Nicholas Gegg relinquished command to Navy Lt. Joshua Lamb.

Gegg, who took command of the detachment in July 2018, said his No. 1 priority here has been making the best warfighters who can properly support combatant commanders “as soon as they walk out these doors.”

“We have a unique role here … that really does make a positive impact on the future of Seabees,” he said. “I had the privilege of working with some of the most professional Seabees in our force. These instructors are the first impression — they set the standard — and it’s a high standard.”

Navy Capt. Christopher Kurgan, CSFE commanding officer, presided over the ceremony, and had nothing but praise for Gegg.

“You should be absolutely proud of all your accomplishments,” he said. “Your leadership has been stellar. You succeeded brilliantly, both on mission accomplishment and on taking care of your people.”

Lamb, a native of Gainesville, Missouri, said he is excited to join the professional and dedicated staff here.

“CSFE has a vital role in supporting the fleet’s Naval lethality in the great power competition era to better take on the ever-growing needs of the Navy, Marine Corps and joint forces,” he said. “Peer competitor demand necessitates the development of confident Seabees to support our nation’s needs and that is something I don’t take lightly.”

The Fort Leonard Wood Navy Detachment is responsible for providing confident and adaptable equipment operators on nine variants of heavy equipment and engineering aids well versed in both survey and soils ready to support combatant and/or component commanders across the full spectrum of military operations.
