Fort Leonard Wood is scheduled to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Chemical Corps with the U.S Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear School, as they hold their 2018 Regimental Week June 26 through 28.
The theme of this year’s regimental week is “Honoring the Past; Preparing for the Future”.
“We should invest some time reflecting on 100 years of service to our nation,” said Col. Thomas Duncan II, USACBRNS assistant commandant. “We should be proud of our history and tradition; while also recommitting ourselves to ensuring we are prepared to enable our forces to defend our nation, and our allies, for the next 100 years.”
Events kick off at 9:00 a.m. June 26, with a Chemical Corps Regimental Association hosted exhibit at Nutter Field House, where technology used by chemical Soldiers will be on display until 4 p.m.
June 27 will start off with an early-morning, 2-mile Regimental Run beginning at 5:45 a.m. on Gammon Field, followed by the CCRA exhibit opening again from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m.
Beginning at 6 a.m. June 28 the regiment will pay tribute to fallen Dragon Soldiers with the “Honor to our Fallen Sunrise Service” at Memorial Grove. At 9 a.m. the State of the Regiment address is scheduled to be given by the USACBRNS commandant at Baker Theater, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony, Sibert Award and Hall of Fame/Distinguished Member of the Corps Induction Ceremony.
Also taking place June 28 is a Veterans’ Homecoming Ceremony, slated for 3:30 p.m. at the 84th Chemical Battalion classroom. The ceremony will recognize anyone who has served from World War II to current conflicts.
The activities conclude June 29 with the annual Green Dragon Ball set for 6 p.m. at Nutter Field House. A social hour begins at 5 p.m. Tickets are required for this event.
Duncan said the sunrise service, Veterans’ Homecoming Ceremony and Green Dragon Ball will be the highlights of the celebration.
“The Army is about people. These events provide an opportunity to honor members of the Chemical Corps, past and present,” he said. “To all the Soldiers, civilians who are, or have, served in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps; thank you for your service. A special thanks to all family and friends that have supported their loved ones in our corps, as well.”
