Feb. 21

Feb. 23
The Outdoor Adventure Center and Natural Resources Branch of Fort Leonard Wood, along with the U.S. Forest Service and the Missouri Department of Conservation announced they will hold the annual Kid’s Trout Fishing Derby from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Stone Mill Spring Recreation Area. The event is open to participants ages 15 and younger. Anglers can fish for nearly 1,000 rainbow trout, including specially-marked trout that they can turn in for prizes. Participants must bring their own fishing poles, tackle and bait. The event is free, and no pre-registration is required. Parking will be allowed along the shoulders of Route 26 toward Piney Valley Golf Course. Father Daughter Dance, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 23 at Nutter Field House. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. for pictures. The Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood Black History Month Celebration is scheduled for 11:30 to 1 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Pershing Community Center. Army Special Operations Force recruiters are scheduled to return to Fort Leonard Wood Feb. 26 through March 8 in search of candidates for their Special Forces, Psychological Operations and Civil Affairs programs. ARSOF is looking for Soldiers who are willing to train and prepare, both physically and mentally, to endure 10 to 21 days of assessment and selection with extensive follow-on training. All briefings are scheduled to begin at noon Feb. 26 through 28 and March 4, 5 and 7 in Room 102 of Clarke Library and March 1, 6 and 8 being held in Truman Education Center. Those participating should expect to take a physical fitness test. Tests are scheduled to be held at 7 a.m. March 1 and 8 at the PT Track on the corner of Nebraska and Minnesota avenues. Applications for engineers wanting to compete in the 13th annual Lt. Gen. Robert B. Flowers Best Sapper Competition are now being accepted through March 8. The date of the three-day competition, which takes place at Fort Leonard Wood, home of the U.S. Army Engineer Regiment, is April 8 through 10. Competitors will report on April 6. Priority will be given to teams composed of two Sapper Leader Course graduates. Up to 50 teams will start the 50-hour competition, where they will travel 50 miles while completing a variety of events that test their technical and tactical proficiency as Sapper leaders. The Fort Leonard Wood Tax Center will remain open through the end of April, and is located on the first floor of the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, Building 315. Appointments can be made by calling the Fort Leonard Wood Tax Center at 573.596.1040. The FLW Tax Center’s hours of operation are Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays. While appointments are encouraged, walk-ins are welcome during the Tax Center’s hours of operation.
