FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (Nov. 8, 2018) — On Sunday, we celebrate Veterans Day by honoring the men and women who have served our nation and who continue to serve our nation in times of war and peace. They have shown devotion, patriotism, selfless service and sacrifice.

Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day and was established to commemorate the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month in 1918, when the armistice was signed to end World War I.

Veterans Day, 2018, has special significance, because it marks the 100th anniversary of the signing of that armistice when “the war to end all wars” was officially over.

As you remember and honor our veterans this weekend, also enjoy time with friends and family. While you do so, we ask that you remain vigilant and practice safety at all times.

If something doesn’t feel right, follow your instincts and make the best, ethical decision. Each of you has a vital role in the defense of our country.

We want you to return to duty after the holiday weekend safely, so we can continue to train and develop our service members who support our military’s missions around the world.

We are proud to serve with so many outstanding and patriotic veterans as well as all of our civilian workforce. We are thankful for all that you do. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
