FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (June 7, 2018) – The following Fort Leonard Wood announcements are for the week of June 11 through June 15.

June 9

Kids catfish derby, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. June 9 at pond 228 on Fort Leonard Wood. This free event is open to the public. Youth ages 2-15 years old must be accompanied by an adult. There will be great prizes for tagged catfish. Limit 4 catfish per angler. Registration will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the day of the event. For more information contact, 573.596.4223.

5k Fun Run, 8 a.m. June 9 starting at Davidson Fitness Center. This is a non-competitive 5k and kids half-miler for Men’s Health Month. Open to authorized patrons, all ages. Baby strollers and dogs on leashes permitted. There will be a Mini Health Fair included in the event. Bring your 2018 Race Series Punch Card or sign up for one! No pre-registration required. The 5k Fun Run will begin at 8 a.m. and the Kid’s Half-Miler will begin at 9 a.m. This event is free. For more information, call 573.596.4359.

June 10

Annie Get Your Gun, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 10 at the Outdoor Adventure Center. This ladies class instructs on how to properly handle, clean and fire a .22 handgun. Firearms and ammunition will be provided. The class will take place in a controlled environment and lunch will be provided. Open to ages 16 and older. Cost is $25 per person. June 14

Fort Leonard Wood plans to celebrate the U.S. Army’s 243rd birthday with several events on post June 14, which is the official Army birth date. Events that day include a division-style Army birthday run kicking off at 5:30 a.m. from Gammon Field, followed by the annual birthday cake-cutting ceremony and ice cream social at 10 a.m. at the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence Plaza. The final tribute for the day will be the Streamer and Retreat ceremony at 4:30 p.m. at the MSCoE Plaza for members of Fort Leonard Wood and the surrounding communities. June 18 and 19

The Fort Leonard Wood Commissary has scheduled a free P&G Football ProCamps event for military children, featuring Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert, June 18 and 19 on Fort Leonard Wood. Registration for the camp is open to boys and girls who are military children going into grades one through eight. Participants must be dependents of active-duty service members, National Guard, Reserve, military retirees or Department of Defense civilian employees. Parents will need to show their ID card or their child’s dependent ID card in order for the child to participate. Camp sessions will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 18 and from 9 a.m. until noon June 19 at a venue on Fort Leonard Wood to be named later.

June 20

BOSS Single Service Member Day, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 20 at Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area. A buss will depart Davidson Fitness Center at 8:30 a.m. Arrive by 8 a.m. Free, and Oopen to permanent party single service members from all branches. For more information, call 573.563.5967.

Hop on the Bus to Six Flags, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m June 23. The bus will leave Leisure Travel Services, located in the Exchange Mini Mall, at 8 a.m. and will return at 8 p.m. Open to the public, all ages. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $60 per person and includes entrance to Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor, and transportation. Register by June 22. June 28

The U.S. Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear School at Fort Leonard Wood plans to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Chemical Corps with a Veterans Homecoming June 28. The event is open to all Chemical Corps veterans, and each veteran is invited to bring one guest.

Several events planned that day include:

  • A Sunrise Service at 6 a.m. at the Chemical Corps Memorial Grove, followed by a Sunrise Service Breakfast.
  • A tour of the 1st Lt. Joseph Terry CBRN Responder Training Facility at 8:30 a.m.
  • The Hall of Fame/Distinguished Member of the Corps Induction Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. in Baker Theater.
  • A no-host lunch with Soldiers at the 84th Chemical Battalion dining facility at 11:30 a.m.  Cost of the meal is $5.60 per person.
  • A visit to the Chemical Corps Museum, along with group photos at 1:15 p.m.
  • A Veterans Recognition Ceremony in the 84th Chemical Battalion classroom at 3:30 p.m.
