April 1

April 5
The Book Brigade Book Club meets at 5:30 p.m. April 5 in the community room of the Bruce C. Clarke Library. This month’s book is to “be by an author you have never read.” For more information, call 573.563.4113.
Piney Valley Golf Course will hold a Ladies Golf Clinic from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 5, the first in a four-week series of lessons on the basics of golf. Future sessions are scheduled April 12, 18 and 26. The entry fee is $30 per person. The clinic is open to the public, and all ages can participate. Clubs, balls and instructions will be provided. April 7
23rd Annual Community Fun Fair, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 7 at the Child Development Center and School Aged Services. This event promotes family wellness, child development issues, parenting skills, and child abuse prevention awareness and is open to the public and all ages. For more information, call 573.596.0238.
The annual Kid’s Trout Fishing Derby has been rescheduled for April 7, and will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at Stone Mill Spring Recreation Area, located on Fort Leonard Wood Route 26, just past the Piney Valley Golf Course. April 11

April 17
An Engineer Spouse’s Day event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 17. The day will feature a competitive, team-building experience that involves a closer look at engineer vehicles, inert mine detection, door breaching with manual tools, an urban operations paintball exercise, rappelling, and more. Attendees are encouraged, but not required, to complete all events. Attendees will also gain a greater understanding of the resources available to spouses within the Fort Leonard Wood community. Military spouses of all services are welcome. Cost is $25 and includes a T-shirt and lunch. Attendees must be 18 years or older to participate. RSVP on or before April 13 by calling Capt. The Engineer Regimental Ball and Awards Ceremony is planned for 7 p.m. April 20 at Nutter Field House. The annual National Prayer Breakfast at Fort Leonard Wood is scheduled from 6:30 to 8 a.m. April 24 at Pershing Community Center. Lt. Gen. Robert Van Antwerp, who retired from the U.S. Army as Chief of Engineers, is the featured guest speaker for this year’s event. Tickets are available from unit executive assistants. April 26 and 27
A Soldier For Life — Transition Assistance Program Transition Summit will be held April 26 – 27 on post in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Hiring our Heroes (HOH) program. This event prepares service members and their spouses who will transition from the military within the next 24 months and connects them with resources, employers, and jobs. This event is mandatory for service members who will transition in the next 24 months, and is open to all veterans and individuals eligible to receive transition assistance. Events include Hiring our Heroes workshops focused on specific vocations conducted by industry professionals, a networking event providing an opportunity to establish relationships with a number of national employers, presentations and panel discussions, and a national hiring and education fair.
