FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (Feb. 21, 2018) — A gas leak occurred here today at about 11:30 a.m. near the post Child Development Center located on Replacement Avenue.
The staff at the center smelled gas outside the facility, and followed standard reporting procedures.
No CDC or school-age personnel were evacuated since the leak was detected outside, said Nancy Starnes, CYS Coordinator for Fort Leonard Wood Child, Youth & School Services.
The Fort Leonard Wood Fire Department arrived at the location at about noon and located the leak. The Fire Department notified the Directorate of Public Works and they were able to turn off the gas.
All personnel at the CDC are safe and secure, Starnes said.
Military Police have blocked off Replacement Avenue between Iowa and Constitution avenues. The situation is currently under investigation, and there is no estimated time on when repairs would be completed.
