Commander’s Cup Singles Racquetball Tournament

Feb. 13

Pre-retirement brief

The Retirement Services Office will host a pre-retirement brief from 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 13 in Lincoln Hall Auditorium. The brief is open to all branches of service, spouses, and civilians. Pre-registration is not required for this event. For more information, call 573.596.6637.

Feb. 14

Sweetheart Bowl

Bring your special someone to the Daugherty Bowling Center for Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Bowl taking place 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 14. Cost of event is $25, which includes two games of bowling, shoe rental, large one-topping pizza and two small sodas. This event is open to the public, ages 18 and up. Feb. 17

Volunteer of the Year nominations due

The last day to submit nominations for the 2017 Volunteer of the Year award is Feb. 17. Selectee must be a registered volunteer on post with hours certified in Army One Source/Volunteer Management Information System for 2017. The individuals selected will be recognized in April. Feb. 17

Red Cross blood drive

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive on the Bloodmobile from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Exchange on post. Additional collections will be hosted at locations in St. Robert on Feb. 16 and Feb. 26. For more information, call 573.680.0813.

Feb. 24

Commander’s Cup Swim Meet

The Commander’s Cup Swim Meet is scheduled for 9 a.m. Feb. 24, at the Davidson Fitness Center. The event is open to active duty military personnel, dependents 18 & older and out of high school, retirees, and DoD civilians. Participants must register at Davidson Fitness Center by February 21. Wellness Center offers instruction for health and wellness

The Army Wellness Center offers instruction on ways to improve body composition, metabolism, fitness and techniques to improve resiliency. The Wellness Center is open to government ID cardholders and those who are in the DEERS system. For more information, call 573.596.9677. The Army Wellness Center is located in Building 350 across from the hospital on Illinois Avenue.

Request for volunteers for Holocaust remembrance observance

The Noncommissioned Officers Academy is scheduled to host Holocaust Remembrance Days in April and volunteers are needed to help make the event a success. Heartsaver class available at GLWACH

Did you know General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital hosts Heartsaver/AED Classes? In the class, participants learn about chest compression techniques and how to administer breaths to someone who isn’t breathing correctly. The class also teaches individuals how to use an Automated External Defibrillator. Upon class completion graduates receive a certification card and leave with the confidence in their ability to perform CPR and use the AED if needed. For service members and Department of Defense civilians who may want to sign up for the Heartsaver/AED Class, please email Brad Groves, GLWACH Military Training Network Program director, at bradley.g.groves.civ@mail.mil.

Computer programing class

The Fort Leonard Wood Career Skills Program office is teaming up with the Truman Education Center and a St. Louis-based technology company to offer a computer programming class for service members, DOD civilians, dependents and veterans. The course starts April 10 and ends Aug. 9. Classes will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, at the Truman Education Center. The class will assist in developing coding skills to prepare attendees for a career in computer programming and information technology. Career placement opportunities are slated to be available upon successful completion of the course. The course will be offered at no cost to eligible participants. Register by March 12.
