FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (Aug. 2, 2019) — The following Fort Leonard Wood announcements are for the week of Aug. 5-9.

Aug. 6

Tuesday Trivia night is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Ozark Tavern. Come and enjoy food while competing for bragging rights along with prizes being awarded to the top teams. Tuesday Trivia is free and open to the public, ages 18 and up. For more information, contact 573.596.0001.

Aug. 7

In order to support the increase of Unit Postal Clerk and Mail Handler Duty Appointments, the Administrative Services Division will conduct the Postal Clerk and Mail Handler Course twice per month. Scheduled training will take place Aug. 7 at the Administrative Services Division – Official Mail Room, Bldg. 498, behind the U.S. Post Office. Unit Postal Officers will only register eligible candidates for attendance through the ASD’s SharePoint page. Candidates are required to provide a copy of their Appointment Memorandum to ASD once their registration is verified. Maximum class attendance is 20 and minimum registration is five.

Aug. 8

General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital will host a lunch and learn on the topic of Starting Healthy Sleep Habits, beginning at noon Aug 8 in the GLWACH dinning facility.

Aug. 10

Leisure Travel Services has tickets for the AUSA Military Appreciation Day Game at Busch Stadium on Aug. 10. Tickets are $15 and are available to active and retired military, veterans, and DoD civilians. Tickets include a free tailgate party held in the Starr Parking Lot located across from Gate 2 of Busch Stadium in the far southeast corner of the parking area. The St. Louis Cardinals will play the Pittsburgh Pirates.

A free 5K Fun Run is scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 10 at the Davidson Fitness Center. The Kid’s Half-Miler is scheduled to follow at 9 a.m. The event is free and open to all ages. Runners with dogs on leashes and runners pushing strollers are welcome. For more information, call 573.596.4359.

Aug. 14

The Fort Leonard Wood Thrift Shop’s annual Customer Appreciation event is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m Aug 14. There will be hourly drawings for free giveaways, savings at the register and the Mobile USO of Missouri will provide lunch.

Aug. 23

The 19th Annual Know Your World event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m.  Aug. 23 at Nutter Field House. Over 70 international military officers from 38 different countries will be hosting the event. Meander through the world in the middle of Missouri.  Come experience this unique opportunity to meet people from 38 different countries.  You can ask questions, see beautiful photos, learn a word in a new language, sample exotic food, try a new dance step, and maybe pick out a spot for your next vacation.  This fun and exciting evening provides a chance to make new friends, and if you are interested in sharing American culture with an international student while learning more about their culture, check out the Friendship Ambassador table.  Being a Friendship Ambassador is easy and a great way to learn more about a specific country. Besides food from some of the countries there will also be light desserts and sodas to enjoy while you explore the world.

Aug. 26-27

The Fort Leonard Wood Commissary will be closed August 26 and 27 while they conduct inventory. They will resume normal hours August 28. The Fort Leonard Wood Commissary management and staff appreciate your patronage and apologize for any inconvenience.

Aug. 27-29

Women’s Basic Self-Defense Classes are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Aug. 27-29 at ACS and Pippin Gym. Join us for this easy-to-learn, hands-on self-defense training! The Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) system is taught by nationally certified instructors and educates women on awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and risk avoidance. This is NOT a martial arts course. No experience is necessary. Open to females only, ages 14 & up. Open to service members, family members, and DoD civilians. The event is free but participants must attend both days. Aug. 29

The Soldier for Life Transition Assistance Program will hold a hiring fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 29 at Nutter Field House. The hiring fair is open to all service members, veterans, family members, and other job seekers. Those interested in attending the hiring fair should bring paper copies of their resumes. Community Orientations are held from 8 a.m. to noon, Thursdays at Building 470 in Room 2224. This program is part of a seven day cycle for in processing Soldiers called Arrive Strong. Spouses are also encouraged to attend. For more information, contact 573.596.0136.

These policies provide guidance and appropriate procedures for residents, employees and visitors to follow while on Fort Leonard Wood.

The House Next Door offers free gown rentals through their Gowns Galore program. The only cost is dry cleaning before you return your rental. The Armed Services Blood Program is in need of blood donors. The Fort Leonard Wood Blood Donor Center is located in Building 822 at the corner of Iowa and Kansas streets. People can donate from 8 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. Sundays through Tuesdays and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays. Call 573.596.5385 for an appointment. Walk-in donors are welcome.

Army spouses can now apply for reimbursement of up to $2,500 in professional relicensing expenses through Army Emergency Relief when they move to another state. The first step for spouses is knowing the certification requirements in their new state. If assistance is necessary, spouses who are eligible for the reimbursement will need their Soldier to apply for the reimbursement at their command. They will need a completed SF 1034 form, a copy of their PCS orders, and copies of the old state license or certification, the new license or certification, marriage certificate, and proof of fees paid. Soldiers and their spouses will be able to apply for this assistance within 180 days of arrival to their new location by presenting the license or certification from the previous state along with their application, which they can find on aerhq.org.
