July 22 through 26

Fort Leonard Wood Vacation Bible School will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. July 22 through the 26 at the Main Post Chapel for kids age 3 through kids going into the 6th grade. This year’s theme is the Incredible Race. The Incredible Race is a race around the world as we discover that no matter where we live, what language we speak, or what we look like, we are all part of the same family. Kids will discover we are all part of the same race, the human race, as they enjoy songs, crafts, games, goodies, and dramas. July 25

Lunch and Learn series: Short Term/Long Term Debt, from 11:30 a.m. to noon in Bldg. 5137, Education Room. Email aaron.d.lueck.civ@mail.mil before attending, in not part of the ECS workforce.

The Noontime League will be held on Thursdays beginning July 25 at the Daugherty Bowling Center. Shadow bowl starts at 11:30 a.m. and bowl for score at 11:40 a.m. Open to the public, ages 18 and up. July 29

Martial Arts Trail Class is scheduled for 5 p.m. July 29 at Building 614 located at 13613 Replacement Avenue. This free class is open to authorized youth, ages 6-18. Only 20 slots are available so reserve your spot now. Youth must be registered with Child & Youth Services. Register youth at Parent Central Services in Building 470, Room 1126. Aug. 3 and 10

Women’s Basic Self-Defense Classes are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. August 3rd and 10th in ACS rooms 109 and 127. Join us for this easy-to-learn, hands-on self-defense training! The Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) system is taught by nationally certified instructors and educates women on awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and risk avoidance. This is NOT a martial arts course. No experience is necessary. Open to females only, ages 14 & up. Open to service members, family members, and DoD civilians. The event is free but participants must attend both days.

Aug. 14

The Fort Leonard Wood Thrift Shop’s annual Customer Appreciation event is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m Aug 14. There will be hourly drawings for free giveaways, savings at the register and the Mobile USO of Missouri will provide lunch. Aug. 23

The 19th Annual Know Your World event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m.  Aug. 23 at Nutter Field House. Over 70 international military officers from 38 different countries will be hosting the event. Meander through the world in the middle of Missouri.  Come experience this unique opportunity to meet people from 38 different countries.  You can ask questions, see beautiful photos, learn a word in a new language, sample exotic food, try a new dance step, and maybe pick out a spot for your next vacation.  This fun and exciting evening provides a chance to make new friends, and if you are interested in sharing American culture with an international student while learning more about their culture, check out our Friendship Ambassador table.  Being a Friendship Ambassador is easy and a great way to learn more about a specific country. Besides food from some of the countries there will also be light desserts and sodas to enjoy while you explore the world.

Aug. 29

The Soldier for Life Transition Assistance Program will hold a hiring fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 29 at Nutter Field House. The hiring fair is open to all service members, veterans, family members, and other job seekers. Those interested in attending the hiring fair should bring paper copies of their resumes. All Garrison policies to include those about vapor producing devices, use of unit funds provided by MWR and operating a taxi on Fort Leonard Wood are located at https://home.army.mil/wood/index.php/about/Garrison/garrison-policy. These policies provide guidance and appropriate procedures for residents, employees and visitors to follow while on Fort Leonard Wood.

The Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security is currently recruiting for Individual Mobilization Augmentee Liaisons with Human Resource Command in the following ranks and grades, Major 42H and MSG 42A. Duties will be two days per month during the week in DPTMS Current Operations with possible annual training at HRC. Contact Lisa Stewart at 573.563.6022, for more information.

The Armed Services Blood Program is in need of blood donors. The Fort Leonard Wood Blood Donor Center is located in Building 822 at the corner of Iowa and Kansas streets. People can donate from 8 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. Sundays through Tuesdays and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays. Call 573.596.5385 for an appointment. Walk-in donors are welcome.

Army spouses can now apply for reimbursement of up to $2,500 in professional relicensing expenses through Army Emergency Relief when they move to another state. The first step for spouses is knowing the certification requirements in their new state. If assistance is necessary, spouses who are eligible for the reimbursement will need their Soldier to apply for the reimbursement at their command. They will need a completed SF 1034 form, a copy of their PCS orders, and copies of the old state license or certification, the new license or certification, marriage certificate, and proof of fees paid. Soldiers and their spouses will be able to apply for this assistance within 180 days of arrival to their new location by presenting the license or certification from the previous state along with their application, which they can find on aerhq.org.
