FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (July 12, 2019) — The following Fort Leonard Wood announcements are for the week of July 15-19.
July 20
Float Fest is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 20 at Happy Hollow Recreation Area. Event includes a two-hour float trip followed by an afternoon of food, fun and games. Pick up and drop off will be provided. Guests are welcome for the food and festivities. There will be a volleyball tournament, tug of war competition, bounce houses, horseshoes and other fun family activities. Cost is $50 per canoe. You can join Fort Leonard Wood fitness instructors from 9 to 11:30 a.m. July 20 for Fitness Frenzy at Davidson Fitness Center. Participants are encouraged to wear red, white and blue and join instructors for two hours of heart-pounding exercise. The event includes demonstrations of fitness classes available at DFC. An aquatic portion will be held in the DFC natatorium; cycling will be held in the group fitness room and other classes will be held on the main stage on Court 4. The event is open to authorized personnel ages 18 and older. Authorized personnel ages 13 to 17 can participate with a guardian. Entry is $3 per person. Class passes can be used. July 22 through 26
Fort Leonard Wood Vacation Bible School will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. July 22 through the 26 at the Main Post Chapel for kids age 3 through kids going into the 6th grade. This year’s theme is the Incredible Race. The Incredible Race is a race around the world as we discover that no matter where we live, what language we speak, or what we look like, we are all part of the same family. Kids will discover we are all part of the same race, the human race, as they enjoy songs, crafts, games, goodies, and dramas. Aug. 3 and 10
Women’s Basic Self-Defense Classes are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. August 3rd and 10th in ACS rooms 109 and 127. Join us for this easy-to-learn, hands-on self-defense training! The Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) system is taught by nationally certified instructors and educates women on awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and risk avoidance. This is NOT a martial arts course. No experience is necessary. Open to females only, ages 14 & up. Open to service members, family members, and DoD civilians. The event is free but participants must attend both days.

The 19th Annual Know Your World event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 23 at Nutter Field House. Over 70 international military officers from 38 different countries will be hosting the event. Meander through the world in the middle of Missouri. Come experience this unique opportunity to meet people from 38 different countries. You can ask questions, see beautiful photos, learn a word in a new language, sample exotic food, try a new dance step, and maybe pick out a spot for your next vacation. This fun and exciting evening provides a chance to make new friends, and if you are interested in sharing American culture with an international student while learning more about their culture, check out our Friendship Ambassador table. Being a Friendship Ambassador is easy and a great way to learn more about a specific country. Besides food from some of the countries there will also be light desserts and sodas to enjoy while you explore the world.

The Soldier for Life Transition Assistance Program will hold a hiring fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 29 at Nutter Field House. The hiring fair is open to all service members, veterans, family members, and other job seekers. Those interested in attending the hiring fair should bring paper copies of their resumes. These policies provide guidance and appropriate procedures for residents, employees and visitors to follow while on Fort Leonard Wood.
The MSCoE Emerging Leader Development Program will be officially kicking off in the very near future. The MELDP aims to provide leadership development to emerging leaders. This program is available to Fort Leonard Wood TRADOC Department of the Army civilian employees at the GS-11 and 12 levels. This voluntary, one-year program is competitive and strives to broaden participants’ perspectives, build leadership competencies, and develop trained, capable future Army leaders. The MELDP features mentoring, guided self-development, readings, classes, projects, and an offsite. The initial goal for each annual cohort of participants is ten employees per year, with a planned start date for the first cohort of September 2019. Application deadline is July 19. Shuttle bus service is now available from designated bus stops on an established route for valid DoD ID card holders on official business. This service should be used by personnel for administrative functions, such as travel between barracks, the Consolidated Troop Medical Clinic/hospital and places of duty, as well as movement to meet official business appointments. The service does not provide service to installation AAFES locations or eating establishments. Shuttle service is available from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (except federal holidays). The Armed Services Blood Program is in need of blood donors. The Fort Leonard Wood Blood Donor Center is located in Building 822 at the corner of Iowa and Kansas streets. People can donate from 8 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. Sundays through Tuesdays and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays. Call 573.596.5385 for an appointment. Walk-in donors are welcome.
Army Community Service Bright Start Play Group runs from 9 to 10 a.m. and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays. Children between the ages of 0 and 3 years are eligible to participate. Did you know the Career Skills Program is a component of the Soldier Life Cycle that encourages and prepares Soldiers for civilian employment? Transitioning service members who have or are currently in the process of transitioning and are interested in pursuing an internship in an industry of their choice should visit the Career Skills Program Administrators in Building 499, Room 24. Army spouses can now apply for reimbursement of up to $2,500 in professional relicensing expenses through Army Emergency Relief when they move to another state. The first step for spouses is knowing the certification requirements in their new state. If assistance is necessary, spouses who are eligible for the reimbursement will need their Soldier to apply for the reimbursement at their command. They will need a completed SF 1034 form, a copy of their PCS orders, and copies of the old state license or certification, the new license or certification, marriage certificate, and proof of fees paid. Soldiers and their spouses will be able to apply for this assistance within 180 days of arrival to their new location by presenting the license or certification from the previous state along with their application, which they can find on aerhq.org.
Wednesday Fun Golf Scramble happens every Wednesday until September 18, from 5-7 p.m. at the Piney Valley Golf Course on Fort Leonard Wood. This is a 4-person, 9-hole scramble. Cost is $15 for AGF members and $20 for non-AGF members. Open to ages 18 & older. For more information, call 573-329-4770.
