FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (June 7, 2019) — The following Fort Leonard Wood announcements are for the week of June 10-14.
June 11
The Fort Leonard Wood Retirement Services Office will present a Pre-Retirement Briefing for active duty personnel from 8 a.m. to noon June 11 at Lincoln Hall Auditorium. Attendance is mandatory for all soldiers with approved retirements and at least 12 months before their retirement date(s) or for medical retirements at the start of the medical retirement process. June 14
On June 14th we will celebrate 244 years of Army history. The Army Birthday theme this year is “A Call to Service” to inspire young people to follow in the footsteps of generations of Americans who have served. At Fort Leonard Wood, we will observe the Army birthday with a run at 5:30 a.m. from Gammon Field, a cake-cutting at 10 a.m. at the Lincoln Hall Atrium, and the Commanding General’s Army Birthday Golf Scramble at noon at the Piney Valley Golf Course. The golf scramble is open to the public ages 18 and up. Come join the fun with this 4-person scramble and have a meal after play. For more information, call 573.329.4770.
June 17
The U.S. Army Engineer School will celebrate 244 years of military service with a muster and birthday ceremony from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 17 at the John B. Mahaffey Museum Complex Engineer Regimental Room. Muster Cards will be issued throughout the day. The 1st Engineer Brigade birthday celebration takes place at 11 a.m., and the official Engineer Regimental Birthday observance and cake-cutting ceremony starts at 11:30 a.m. on the museum patio. A regimental barbecue is planned for noon and is free for Army Engineer Association members. Virtual Muster Cards can be found online at the USAES web page at home.army.mil/wood.
June 19
LORA Single Service Member day is slated from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 19 at the Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Center. The bus will depart Davidson Fitness Center for LORA at 8:30 a.m. Event is open to all permanent-party single service members from all branches. Registration ends today. The USO Pathfinders Employment Workshop is an event for transitioning Service Members, Veterans, and Military Spouses and is planned from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 19 at the USO Building 805 on post. The workshop will include, resume review, mock interviews, interview preparation, hiring insights, corporate culture, professional networking, professional social media tips. Lunch will be provided. June 21
Drive-in movie night is slated for 8:30 p.m. June 21 at the Rec Plex pool on post. The feature will be ‘How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.’ There will be no show if rain, lightning or high winds. The event is open to the public and all ages. For more information, call 573.596.6913.
June 22
Summer Slam Softball starts at 9 a.m. June 22 at Softball Complex B. Must be at least 18 and out of high school to participate. Cost is $100 per team. Register by 5 p.m. on June 19. Registration and entry fee must be paid in person at Davidson Fitness Center or by phone at 573-596-4359.
June 24
The U.S. Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear School will hold its 101st Regimental Anniversary celebration June 24 through 28. Events include the CBRN Warfighter forum; a change of leadership for the 3rd Chemical Brigade at 9 a.m. June 24; the Chemical Corps Regimental Association 2019 CBRN Exhibition June 25 and 26; a CBRN Spouses’ day event; the Honor to Our Fallen Sunrise Service June 26; the Chemical Corps Regimental Run; the State of the Regiment address both on June 27, and the Green Dragon Ball June 28. Did you know the Career Skills Program is a component of the Soldier Life Cycle that encourages and prepares Soldiers for civilian employment? Transitioning service members who have or are currently in the process of transitioning and are interested in pursuing an internship in an industry of their choice should visit the Career Skills Program Administrators in Building 499, Room 24. A project to repair and upgrade the Engineer Trail kicked off May 20 and will continue through August 19. The lower half of the trail will be closed to runners and walkers Mondays through Fridays now through mid-July, as crews install new culverts, clean existing culverts, clean and install new drainage ditches and reshape and resurface the trail with fresh gravel to correct drainage issues. The upper half of the trail will be closed in a similar fashion from mid-July through August 19. Runners and walkers are asked to respect safety signage on and in the construction area for their own safety as there will be heavy equipment moving along the trail and space is limited.
Soldiers with over 16 years of service who want to transfer their Post-9/11 GI Bill to a dependent must do so before July 12, or risk losing the ability to transfer education benefits.
