FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (May 31, 2018) — This year’s Summer Reading Program at the Bruce C. Clarke Library starts June 4 and runs through July 16.

The “Reading Takes You Everywhere!” online program is provided by the Department of Defense Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Library Program.

All ages may join the program. Because the summer registration and reporting will be done totally online — you can do it anywhere, anytime — from home, from a phone, on a library computer, while on vacation or even in the middle of the night.

Online registration and reporting of minutes read will start Monday. Read, report and receive rewards from until July 16, and all reporting will be by minutes read.

Registration and reporting can be completed at https://brucecclarke.beanstack.org/reader365

The Clarke Library supports both reading and listening to books, magazines and newspapers. We know many of the teens and adults in our program learned the joy of reading through a summer reading program.

For school-age children summer reading is both fun and will help them maintain their skills, stopping “summer slide.” And for the youngest children the joy of having their parents or older siblings read to them will create a life-long love of reading.

The program levels this year will be minutes read. The recommended reading goal for children ages 1 to 5 is being read to at least 10 minutes a day.

Children ages 6 to 12, need to read at least 20 minutes a day.

We recommend teens and adults read at least 30 minutes a day.

If you prefer listening to audio books you can also use them towards the goals. You can also count any type of reading material, for instance a whole magazine or even Army regulations.

Books may also be in digital print or audio from online sources provided through https://MWRlibrary.armybiznet.com such as TumbleBooks, Overdrive, and RBdigital, ebooks and magazines.

While we have established recommended minimum goals for reading incentives/prizes, we hope everyone reports all their reading or listening on a regular basis throughout the program — because it’s fun and to be eligible for random prize drawings.

Random drawings for overall prizes will take place after the program closes so everyone will have a chance to win. Participants must have completed and reported all goal levels to be included in the drawing.

All winners must be signed up and have participated by reading and reporting minutes read in the online summer reading program. They also must be registered Bruce C. Clarke library patrons, either as an individual or the child/family member of an authorized sponsor. Library registration requires a military, military family member or civilian employee ID card and must be done in person at the library by the sponsor or spouse.

So read, report and receive rewards. And most important, just enjoy reading or listening to books.
