FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (October 18, 2024) – The following Fort Leonard Wood announcements are for the week of October 21 through October 25.
October 24
Army Community Service will host a community fair from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, Oct. 24, at the USO, Bldg. 805, as part of the newcomer’s orientation. Service members, civilians and families are invited to attend to learn more about many of the area’s on- and off-post amenities and services. Call 573.596.0212 for details.
The public is invited to gather to listen as the 399th Army Band plays its final notes during a concert and inactivation ceremony Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. in Nutter Field House.
October 25
Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation is hosting a Trunk or Treat from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 25 and the main post exchange. This will be a free night of games, trunks and treats for all ages.
October 26
Harvest Fest is scheduled from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 26 at Piney Valley Golf Course. Harvest Fest includes pumpkin patch rides, decorating pumpkins, bounce houses, axe throwing, a haunted house and food and drinks. Shuttle rides from Pershing Community Center begin at 3 p.m.
October 30
Bruce C. Clarke Library will announce the winner of their 8th Annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest Oct. 31. Submit your pumpkin painted in a literary theme to the circulation desk by Oct. 30 for a chance to win. Open to all ages. Pumpkins must be painted. Carved pumpkins will not be accepted.

Flu vaccines are now available to TRICARE beneficiaries at General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital’s immunization clinic. Patients can walk into the immunization clinic from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, call 573.596.1768 or visit GLWACH’s immunizations website.
Repair work on the docks at Training Area 250 is scheduled to run through the end of the year. Officials from the U.S. Army Engineer School’s Combat Engineer Skills Division are asking people to avoid the area for the duration of the project. For more information, call 573.596.1011.
Fall has arrived, which means deer and other wild animals are on the move as temperatures cool and nights become longer. Most deer strikes with vehicles occur during October and November and between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Missouri Department of Transportation reminds motorists to be prepared for the sudden appearance of wild animals on Missouri roadways throughout the fall months.
