FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (Nov. 8, 2018) – The following Fort Leonard Wood announcements are for the week of Nov. 19 through Nov. 23.

Nov. 22

Fort Leonard Wood plans to hold its traditional Thanksgiving Day celebration Nov. 22 in several of its dining facilities on post, with meals for service members and their spouses and dependents, as well as veterans and retired service members. Family and friends are welcome to dine with their military member in the individual’s assigned dining facility from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Veterans and retired service members are invited to enjoy a Thanksgiving Day meal between the hours of 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Double DFAC, located at 6111 Indiana Avenue. The 2018 Thanksgiving holiday meal rate is $9.10 for all visitors, except spouses and other dependents of service members E-4 and below, who pay the discounted holiday meal rate of $6.80 per person.

Nov. 26

The Fort Leonard Wood community can participate in a free household E-cycling event , scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 26 in the southwest corner of the Nutter Field House parking lot. Items that can be E-cycled include old computers, printers, fax machines, televisions, audio equipment, cell phones, microwaves and household batteries. No government or business electronics or appliances, such as refrigerators, washers and dryers, will be allowed. For more information, call 573.596.3843.

Nov. 28

Martial Arts Trial Class, 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 28 at CDC 614. Reserve your spot now for this Martial Arts Trial Class! Only 20 slots are available. This free class is open to authorized youth, ages 6-18. Youth must be registered with Child & Youth Services to participate. For more information, contact 573.596.0200.

Nov. 30

National American Indian Heritage Month Luncheon, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 30 at Pershing Community Center. Tickets are $12 per person and available at the Equal Opportunity Office. Call 573.596.0601 for details.

Nov. 30 is the last day to register for Operation Christmas Card, which is MWR’s Cards to the Community Competition. Help the community celebrate the holiday season. Enter the competition and design your larger-than-life card to be displayed throughout the season on the MSCoE Plaza. Cards to the Community is open to the public. Participants must use one 4’x8’ piece of plywood to make the card. The plywood must be cut in two pieces and hinged together to represent a greeting card. Trees for Troops is scheduled to kick-off around 8:30 a.m. Nov. 30 at the Auto Skills Center. The Trees for Troops program delivers real Christmas trees to troops and military families. Pick up for active duty service members and spouses is scheduled for approximately 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 30 and will run until Dec. 2. For your safety, the tree lot will open when the Fed Ex trucks are unloaded and clear the area. Pick up for all authorized personnel will begin on Dec. 3, while supplies last.

Dec. 4

Fort Leonard Wood Combined Federal Campaign annual charity fair, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 4 at the USO. Between 20 and 25 charities are expected to be in attendance. The event is open to all service members, DOD employees, government contractors and military retirees.

Dec. 8

Women’s Basic Self-Defense Classes are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 8 and 15. Both classes will be held in ACS Rooms 109 & 127. The Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) system is taught by nationally certified instructors and educates women on awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and risk avoidance. No experience is necessary. Open to females only, ages 14 and up. Open to service members, family members, and DoD civilians. The event is free but participants must attend both days. For more information, call 573-563-0212.

Dec. 11

St. Nick’s Benefit Ceremony, 10 a.m. Dec. 11 at Grant Hall Auditorium. The St. Nick’s Benefit provides community members with the opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts for disadvantaged children and special needs adults. Purchase gifts in price range from $40 to $70. Dec. 13

399th Army Band holiday concert, 7 p.m. Dec. 13 at Baker Theater. The concert is entitled “Letters from the Front: A Musical Holiday Card from the 399th Army Band.” The event is free and open to the public.

The Fort Leonard Wood Combined Federal Campaign is underway and is scheduled to run through Jan. 12. The CFC provides federal employees with the opportunity to donate to charities via a one-time donation or payroll deduction. According to gatewaycfc.org, the CFC is one of the world’s largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaigns, raising millions of dollars each year. The Legal Assistance Office is currently looking for full- and part-time volunteers to assist with the 2018 tax season, which runs from January through April 2019. Volunteers are needed for both weekdays and weekends. No previous formal tax training is required, as training is provided. Volunteers will attend a multi-day training session conducted by the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. Interested individuals may contact Capt. Once selected, volunteers are registered with the Army Volunteer Corps.
