FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (March 22, 2018) – The following Fort Leonard Wood announcements are for the week of March 26 through 30.

March 23

A retirement ceremony for Command Sgt. Maj. Alma Zeladaparedes, Maneuver Support Center of Excellence Noncommissioned Officers Academy commandant, is planned for 9:30 a.m. March 23 in the Chemical Corps Regimental Room. Col. (P) Andy Munera is the officiating officer for this event. We thank Command Sgt. Maj. Zeladaparedes, who will retire after 31 years of dedicated service to the U.S. Army. The official Change-of-Commandants ceremony for the NCO Academy takes place at 2 p.m. March 29 at Nutter Field House.

March 24

Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Easter Egg Hunt begins at 9 a.m. March 24 at Gammon Field. There will be various activities including music, face painting, a balloon artist, and pictures with the Easter Bunny. This free event is open to the public, ages 0 to 12 years old. No strollers are allowed in the egg hunting areas. No pets are allowed. In case of rain, the event will be moved to March 31. March 27

An Armed Services Blood Program Blood Drive, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 27 at Davidson Fitness Center, Court 1. For more information, call 573.596.5385.

March 28

A Women’s History Month Book Signing is planned from noon to 3:30 p.m. March 28 at the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence Exchange Bookstore.  This event will feature author Ruth VanDyke. For more information, call 573.329.2200.

March 29

The Maneuver Support Center of Excellence Noncommissioned Officers Academy will host a Change-of-Commandants ceremony at 2 p.m. March 29 at Nutter Field House. Command Sgt. Maj. Alma Zeladaparedes, who has served as the academy’s commandant since March 31, 2015, will transfer leadership responsibility to Command Sgt. Maj. Teresa Duncan.

The Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood will host a Women’s History Month Observance, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 29 at Pershing Community Center. April 5

The Book Brigade Book Club meets at 5:30 p.m. April 5 in the community room of the Bruce C. Clarke Library. This month’s book is to “be by an author you have never read.” For more information, call 573.563.4113.

April 17

An Engineer Spouse’s Day event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 17. The day will feature a competitive, team-building experience that involves a closer look at engineer vehicles, inert mine detection, door breaching with manual tools, an urban operations paintball exercise, rappelling, and more. Attendees are encouraged, but not required, to complete all events. Attendees will also gain a greater understanding of the resources available to spouses within the Fort Leonard Wood community. Military spouses of all services are welcome. Cost is $25 and includes a T-shirt and lunch. Attendees must be 18 years or older to participate. RSVP on or before April 13 by calling Capt. The Engineer Regimental Ball and Awards Ceremony is planned for 7 p.m. April 20 at Nutter Field House. April 24

The annual National Prayer Breakfast at Fort Leonard Wood is scheduled from 6:30 to 8 a.m. April 24 at Pershing Community Center. Lt. Gen. Robert Van Antwerp, who retired from the U.S. Army as Chief of Engineers, is the featured guest speaker for this year’s event. Tickets are available from unit executive assistants. April 26 and 27

A Soldier For Life — Transition Assistance Program Transition Summit will be held April 26 – 27 on post in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Hiring our Heroes (HOH) program. This event prepares service members and their spouses who will transition from the military within the next 24 months and connects them with resources, employers, and jobs. This event is mandatory for service members who will transition in the next 24 months, and is open to all veterans and individuals eligible to receive transition assistance. Events include Hiring our Heroes workshops focused on specific vocations conducted by industry professionals, a networking event providing an opportunity to establish relationships with a number of national employers, presentations and panel discussions, and a national hiring and education fair.
