Fort Leonard Wood Report for the week of August 26

FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (August 3, 2024) – The following Fort Leonard Wood announcements are for the week of August 26 through August 30.
August 26
South Dakota Street, near the intersection with Nebraska Avenue and the South Express, will have intermittent lane closures from Aug. 26 to 30, while the pavement is resurfaced.
A Women’s Equality Day panel discussion and question-and-answer session is scheduled for 1 p.m. Aug. 26 at Abrams Theater. Email Maj. Milana

August 27
Fort Leonard Wood personnel will be participating in a full-scale exercise from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 27, in and around Gammon Field. Drivers in the
area may experience brief traffic delays during that time.
August 31
Join us for some bounce house fun from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 31 at Colyer Park for Bounce in the Park. A $5 per child fee includes multiple bounce houses, hot dog and a drink. Register at Outdoor Adventure Center, Specker Gym, or Davidson Fitness Center.
September 1
Join fellow automotive enthusiasts from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 1 at the Auto Skills Center for Coffee Cruise-In. Join fellow automotive enthusiasts to show off your wheels, enjoy some hot coffee, and talk shop.
September 5
An event in celebration of September’s Archeology Month is set to take place from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 5 in Colyer Park. Attendees will have chances to learn about prehistoric tools and weapons, see artifact displays and try a spear-throwing tool called an atlatl. Call 573.596.7607 for details.
September 11
A Patriot Day ceremony is set to begin at 8:45 a.m. Sept. 11 on the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence Plaza.
September 24
All Fort Leonard Wood military spouses are invited to attend a spouses’ event on Sept. 24, during the Military Police Regimental Week. The event will include fun competition while allowing spouses to gain a better understanding of aspects of MP training on the installation. Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP via email to 1st Lt. Tyler French at tyler.j.french15.mil@army.mil.

The Department of Defense is introducing a new model for moving personal property called the Global Household Goods Contract. The goal of the GHC is to improve the relocation experiences for Defense Department and Coast Guard personnel by introducing a single move manager, responsible for the packing, shipping, storage, delivery and unpacking of household goods throughout the world. The GHC does not affect the movement of privately owned vehicles. More information on this transition is available via a fact sheet provided by the Movements Branch of the Fort Leonard Wood Personal Property and Passenger Travel Office, which can be found on the Fort Leonard Wood website.
The Attorney General of Missouri Military Legal Assistance Program refers qualified individuals to pro bono attorneys for representation of claims in Missouri, brought under the Service members Civil Relief Act and/or the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act. Active-duty, Reserve and National Guard service members stationed within Missouri – and Missouri-resident service members stationed outside Missouri – are eligible for the program. The South Gate is now open 24/7, and the West Gate is open from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. There are no changes to the hours of operation for the North or East gates.
