Celebrate Archaeology Month from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at Colyer Park Pavilion 1620A. Learn about the people who once called Fort Leonard Wood home thousands of years ago. Watch prehistoric weapons and stone tool making demonstrations. There will be hands-on activities for kids including the opportunity to dig for artifacts and learn what it’s like to be an archaeologist.

Fort Leonard Wood’s Fire Department is hosting a poster contest in honor of October’s Fire Prevention Week. This year’s campaign theme is “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.” Winners will be chosen from two groups: kindergartners and first graders, and second and third graders. Posters should be relevant to the theme; each poster must be the work of one child; the child’s name, grade, school and teacher’s name must be on the back of the poster; and no stickers or cut outs may be pasted on the posters. Join the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers Program for free golf lessons from 2 to 3 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Piney Valley Golf Course. Free and open to single Soldiers, single parents and geo bachelors ages 18 and up. Spots are limited so register by Oct. 3 by calling 573.596.5862.

Join the Fort Leonard Wood Fire Department for Fire Fest in recognition of National Fire Prevention Week from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at the AAFES Main Exchange. Enjoy music from the 399th Army Band, meet your local fire fighters, tour the Fire Safety Trailer, meet Sparky the Fire Dog and see fire trucks. Food and Refreshments will be prepared by the USO.

Anger Management courses will be held monthly on Fridays throughout October in Army Community Service Room A from 12 to 1:30 p.m. People who have a problem with anger don’t always know how to express it in appropriate and constructive ways.
