FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (Aug. 9, 2019) — The following Fort Leonard Wood announcements are for the week of Aug. 12-16.

Aug. 14

The Fort Leonard Wood Thrift Shop’s annual Customer Appreciation event is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m Aug 14. There will be hourly drawings for free giveaways, savings at the register and the Mobile USO of Missouri will provide lunch.

Aug. 15

The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command Fleet Management Expansion Fort Leonard Wood is scheduled to host the Second Annual Occupational Safety and Health Administration Safe and Sound Week, this week, Aug. 12 through 19. Safe and Sound Week is intended to raise the awareness and understanding of the value of safety and health programs. TACOM is scheduled to host a Safe and Sound Stand Down event Aug. 15 from 7:30 to 11:45 a.m., and from 12:45 to 2 p.m. at Building 11431. It is open to any Soldier, retiree, family member or DA civilian. The event will feature interactive displays and demonstrations promoting safety in areas such as risk identification and reduction challenges, emergency spill response demonstration, industrial truck hazards challenge, conservation, water and home safety display, electrical safety display and lane marking demonstration, and fire safety displays.

Aug. 16

The Soldier Readiness Processing site is scheduled to permanently move to Building 310 Room 111-01, next to the Primary Care Clinic in General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital. The SRP site will open in the new location Aug. 16. The site at Building 470 will be closed on Aug. 15 for the move. For more information, call 573.596.3752.

Aug. 20

The Protestant Women of the Chapel Kick-off is scheduled from 9 to 11:45 a.m. Aug. 20 at the Main Post Chapel. The 2019 PWOC Kick-Off is a time for fun and fellowship with other ladies of Fort Leonard Wood and the surrounding area. It is an opportunity to learn about various Bible Studies being offered this semester, make new friends and enjoy brunch. Free child care will be provided beginning at 8:45 a.m.

Fort Wood Community Spouses Club Membership Drive is slated from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Fort Leonard Wood USO. There will be food, beverages and hourly door prizes.

Aug. 20-22

Army Special Operations Force Recruiters are slated to visit Fort Leonard Wood with briefings scheduled Aug. 20, 21 and 22 from noon to 1 p.m. at Bruce C. Clarke Library, Room 101. A physical Fitness Assessment is scheduled for 7 a.m. Aug. 23 next to Specker Dining Facility. For more information, call 915.215.2717.

Aug. 21-22

The Military Police Industry Expo is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 21 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 22 at Nutter Field House. Event is free to attend. For more information, call 573.329.6772.

Aug. 23

The 19th Annual Know Your World event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m.  Aug. 23 at Nutter Field House. Over 70 international military officers from 38 different countries will be hosting the event. Meander through the world in the middle of Missouri.  Come experience this unique opportunity to meet people from 38 different countries.  You can ask questions, see beautiful photos, learn a word in a new language, sample exotic food, try a new dance step, and maybe pick out a spot for your next vacation.  This fun and exciting evening provides a chance to make new friends, and if you are interested in sharing American culture with an international student while learning more about their culture, check out the Friendship Ambassador table.  Being a Friendship Ambassador is easy and a great way to learn more about a specific country. Besides food from some of the countries there will also be light desserts and sodas to enjoy while you explore the world.

Aug. 26-27

The Fort Leonard Wood Commissary will be closed August 26 and 27 while they conduct inventory. They will resume normal hours August 28. The Fort Leonard Wood Commissary management and staff appreciate your patronage and apologize for any inconvenience.

Aug. 27-29

Women’s Basic Self-Defense Classes are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Aug. 27-29 at ACS and Pippin Gym. Join us for this easy-to-learn, hands-on self-defense training! The Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) system is taught by nationally certified instructors and educates women on awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and risk avoidance. This is NOT a martial arts course. No experience is necessary. Open to females only, ages 14 & up. Open to service members, family members, and DoD civilians. The event is free but participants must attend both days. Aug. 29

The Soldier for Life Transition Assistance Program will hold a hiring fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 29 at Nutter Field House. The hiring fair is open to all service members, veterans, family members, and other job seekers. Those interested in attending the hiring fair should bring paper copies of their resumes. All Department of Defense ID card holders working on post as contractors or vendors may no longer use a DoD civilian, retiree, military or dependent ID card as a way to gain access to the installation for the purpose for which they are employed as a contractor or vendor. If a retiree accesses the installation for purposes such as their personal use of the Commissary, PX, FMWR facilities or activities such as medical appointments that are not commercial, business or contracted then the retiree or DoD ID card holder may use their issued DoD ID card. Those needing to apply for a contractor pass should visit the Main Gate Visitor Center.

Community Orientations are held from 8 a.m. to noon, Thursdays at Building 470 in Room 2224. This program is part of a seven day cycle for in processing Soldiers called Arrive Strong. Spouses are also encouraged to attend. For more information, contact 573.596.0136.

All Garrison policies to include those about vapor producing devices, use of unit funds provided by MWR and operating a taxi on Fort Leonard Wood are located at https://home.army.mil/wood/index.php/about/Garrison/garrison-policy. These policies provide guidance and appropriate procedures for residents, employees and visitors to follow while on Fort Leonard Wood.

The House Next Door offers free gown rentals through their Gowns Galore program. The only cost is dry cleaning before you return your rental. The Armed Services Blood Program is in need of blood donors. The Fort Leonard Wood Blood Donor Center is located in Building 822 at the corner of Iowa and Kansas streets.
