FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (Nov. 21, 2018) — A second group of Soldiers with the 509th Clearance Company, 5th Engineer Battalion, is expected to return home today following a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. The Soldiers will be welcomed home in a ceremony at the post.
The unit conducted more than 400 route clearance missions, successfully clearing more than 12,000 kilometers of roadway for the Army’s 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade.
SFABs are specialized units whose core mission is to conduct training, advising, enabling and accompanying operations with allied and partner nations.
The 509th is expected to hold an uncasing ceremony Nov. 29, with additional details to follow as information becomes available.
