May 14-June 25
The Office of Personnel Management will be sending eligible Civilian Employees an email invitation to participate in the annual Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey, which will be available May 14 through June 25. Eligible civilian employees are full-time or part-time permanent, non-seasonal, appropriated fund employees onboard with the Army as of October 2018. The survey provides leaders with valuable insight about its civilian workforce and will take approximately 20-25 minutes to complete. Employees are encouraged to complete the survey and are allowed to complete it on duty time.
May 13-16
The MWR Warehouse Sealed Bid Auction takes place from May 13-16 on post. The auction will include boats, jet skis, vehicles, and more. Those interested in placing a bid should stop by the MWR Warehouse in Building 2347 on Louisiana Avenue between the hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., May 13-16. The highest bidder receives the item. No bids will be accepted after 3 p.m. on May 16. The Sealed Bid Auction is open to the public, ages 18 & older. For more information call 573.596.0173.
May 14-16
A Women’s Self-Defense class will be held from 9 a.m. to noon May 14 at Army Community Service in Room 109; and from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., May 15 and 16, at the Middle School/Teen Center Gym. The class is taught by nationally certified instructors and is designed for females ages 14 and older. Service Members, Family Members and DoD Civilians are welcome. May 15
May 15 is the last day to pre-register for the 20th annual Volkslauf 10K Fun Run. After today, teams and individuals can still register after May 15, but fees will increase slightly. The “extreme 10K event,” hosted annually by the U.S. Marine Corps Detachment, is scheduled for June 1 on Fort Leonard Wood. May 17
Youth Sports and Fitness Volleyball Registration is currently open through May 17 at Parent Outreach Services Building 470, Room 1126. Volleyball registration is open to youth ages 7-15 and cost $45 per participant, which includes a team uniform top and a medallion. May 18
Saturday, May 18, is Armed Forces Day 2019. Armed Forces Day is a federal holiday observed annually on the third Saturday of May. It is a day dedicated to paying tribute to men and women who currently serve in the United States’ armed forces. On Armed Forces Day and every day, we say thank you to all service members for their dedicated service to our country.
A May Days Softball Tournament kicks off at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 18 at Softball Complex B. Register by 5 p.m. May 16 at the Davidson Fitness Center, or by calling 573-596-4359. Cost is $100 per team. No unit affiliation is necessary. Must be 18 years old and out of high school to participate.
On Saturday, May 18, active and retired Law Enforcement Officers will be participating in the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run. Everyone is welcome to show their support and cheer runners on as they pass by. The run is expected to start at 8 a.m. from the St. Robert Walmart, from there runners will travel down Missouri Avenue, past the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital to Gerlach Field. The event will conclude at about 9:15 a.m. at the 795th Military Police Battalion.
The 2nd annual Exceptional Family Member Program Fishing Fun Day is set for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 18 at the Little Wood Pond. The Little Wood Pond will be stocked with sunfish and catfish for some family fun. Limited fishing poles and bait will be available. The event is weather permitting. May 20-24
The east parking lot of the Main Post Exchange is scheduled to be paved from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 20 through 24. This parking lot will be closed, and motorists are asked to watch for moving equipment and trucks. The west parking lot is scheduled to be paved from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 28 through 31. The north side, or main entrance and entrance/exit lanes from the building to Replacement Avenue, are scheduled to be paved beginning at 6 p.m. June 2 through 5. Please proceed through this area with caution and thank you for your patience during this time.
June 1
The annual Springfield Cardinals Military Appreciation Night at Hammons Field is set for June 1 when the Cardinals host the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. The event presented by Infuze Credit Union and Fort Leonard Wood, includes a Saturday night fireworks celebration. Game time is 6:10 p.m. and gates open at 5:10. Tickets may be picked up between 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Infuze Credit Union located on post at 5000 Illinois Avenue, Building 494. A voucher for a free hot dog and Cardinals baseball hat is slated to accompany each ticket. A military ID must be presented at the time of pick-up.
