Teams representing ground transportation specialists at seven U.S. Air Force bases in the region converged on Fort Leonard Wood for the Best in the Midwest Ground Transportation Rodeo, Saturday.
Units from as far as Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota competed in an Air Force Instruction test, 4k forklift, 10k all-terrain forklift and 25-foot tractor trailer obstacle courses.

Select Soldiers assigned to Fort Leonard Wood’s 1st Engineer Brigade took a break from their training mission to spend time on the Big Piney River. They were not taking a float trip, which is a popular area recreational activity. Instead, they were asked by the installation to complete a rapid bridge emplacement at the river’s bank near Happy Hollow May 16 through Friday.

The Piney Valley Golf Course is scheduled to open, weather permitting, from 5 p.m. to dusk, Thursday, to foot traffic only as FLW 26, the road leading to the golf course, continues to be closed for road work.
Golf course patrons are asked to park at the gravel parking areas before the bridge and then walk across the bridge to access the course. Rounds of golf will be free Thursday, though patrons must bring their own clubs. Rentals and other services provided by the clubhouse will not be available Thursday. Private pull carts will be permitted.
